Win the great and Avalon the toddler…

Oct 1, 2015

It’s October. How the heck did that happen?! Where did August and September go? I appear to have been bouncing from wedding to computer and back again several times over these past few weeks and my family, who although still look familiar, I have barely seen lately. I have done little more than shoot weddings, edit wedding photos and design wedding albums and on occasion, attend wedding fayres and meet with new wedding clients. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do, I really do. It’s my dream job and it barely feels like proper work (i’m not exactly down a mine am I?) but it’s felt a bit unrelenting lately and I miss my family.

My nan died a few weeks ago. I finished shooting a wedding on a Thursday and on Friday morning I was woken by a message telling me. My mom’s mom. This wonderful, formidable woman, gone because of something so human as a heart attack. I spoke at the funeral. I was there to speak on behalf of her six children, twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren (courtesy of my cousin, number 13 is due in a few weeks). What a legacy to leave behind. We were close because my mom died. She helped bridge a gap and was there to offer advice, guidance and opinion in a way that only parental figures can. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve gone to pick up the phone lately to call her but then remembered I can’t.

All that remains are pictures.

The other day I took the camera out and captured our not so little girl being the awesome toddler she has become. It’s a marvel really this family thing.

We’ve got some time off together in a couple of weeks so we can celebrate our wedding anniversary and J’s birthday.

I. Can’t. Wait.

When I’m not shooting people in love you can find me at home, probably drinking too much coffee, eating cake and watching a film. My husband and I hold a lot of our conversations in film quotes. We’re kind of film geeks. After ten years of photographing almost 200 couples who love the bones of each other, I’m still in love with weddings and I would love to hear more about yours.
