St Tewdrics House Wedding – Sarah & Matt

Jul 18, 2019

Usually, when it comes to shooting weddings, the closer to home, the better. But seeing as St Tewdrics House is so unique and beautiful and Sarah and Matt are so awesome, I was more than happy to travel a couple of hours down the M5 and across the Severn Bridge into South Wales. I met Sarah in 2017 when she was on bridesmaid duty for one of my previous bride’s, Katie, and when Matt popped the question and the wedding plans were in full swing, she asked if I’d travel for her wedding. HELL YES I WOULD!

St Tewdrics House is 19th Century Italianate Villa with views over the Severn estuary owned by Geraint and Sara Thomas (yes, the same Geraint Thomas of the Tour De France and Sports Personality of the year fame). Sarah and Matt fell in love with the venue as it’s surrounded by green countryside and the interior is stunning – the courtyard for their ceremony and wedding breakfast is so light and airy with exposed original stone and a half glass ceiling.

Sarah and Matt met on a night out in Cardiff back in 2011 and Matt proposed atop The Eiffel Tower whilst they holidayed in Paris in August 2017 before spending a few days at Disneyland.

They planned a relaxed, laid back, Summer wedding with their friends and family with plenty of fun and games, and forgoing a formal, traditional wedding breakfast by opting for Fish & Chips/Halloumi & Chips instead which went down a storm! And Sarah’s mom made their ‘wedding cake’ which was actually lots and lots of mini meringues with fresh cream and berries – YUM! For the speeches, a potentially awkward moment occurred when the best men strung up bunting that spelled out WANKER. Thankfully, it ended up being WAYNE KVEDERAS in tribute to their very much loved cat at home! As the July weather was scorching thanks to The Great Heatwave of 2018 everyone could enjoy the grounds of the venue, play lawn games and get VERY competitive about frisbee! After a first dance within the courtyard, everyone was up on the dance floor for a ceilidh – superb.

I had an absolute blast with Sarah and Matt and I would be more than happy to shoot at St Tewdrics House again. Here’s a few of my faves from the day…

When I’m not shooting people in love you can find me at home, probably drinking too much coffee, eating cake and watching a film. My husband and I hold a lot of our conversations in film quotes. We’re kind of film geeks. After ten years of photographing almost 200 couples who love the bones of each other, I’m still in love with weddings and I would love to hear more about yours.
