Rachel and Alex were planning a very special and personal wedding at their local church followed by a reception at Rachel’s parents’ home; a stunning barn in the Shropshire countryside with a marquee set within never ending fields. The wedding turned out to be a very beautiful send off for the home too as by the time of the wedding the house had sold and Rachel’s parents were moving onto pastures new.
Whilst Rachel and Alex met at school at age 11, they didn’t become an item until they were 15, and as adults, Alex took Rachel back to the school and proposed before going out for a very lovely meal. When I asked Rachel what she was most looking forward to, she said “marrying my best friend”.
Their ceremony took place at the beautiful Edstaston Church near Wem; a quaint church that dates back to the 12th Century. Following the ceremony, everyone headed to the marquee for a laid back reception with outdoors drinks and a BBQ. And the couples labrador dog of course made an appearance.
The wedding weather was a belter, lots of warm sunshine thanks to a heatwave that had spread over the country. The couple chose to decorate the marquee with lots of blue and white and named each table after their favourite American Football teams. The day brought about lots of emotions too, especially during the speeches, as sadly, Alex’s dad had passed away in the November previous.
As the wedding took place in June, with glorious weather, we could still do couples portraits well into the evening before the couple hit the dance floor with all of their friends and family.
It was an absolute pleasure to photograph this wedding, here are a few of my favourites from the day…
