Shropshire elopement and micro wedding in Ludlow

Feb 6, 2021

This tiny Shropshire elopement is just so wonderfully lovely and I am thrilled to share the images with you here. Like many couples, Kim & Chris were originally planning a Summer 2020 wedding at Ludlow castle with lots of friends and family, but then Covid reared its ugly head, and like many others, they pressed paused and reevaluated their plans.

Dates were booked and re booked over and over. Their determination to just get married was inspiring; every time they re booked, another lockdown came into effect, and so it went on, until a phone call with Kim a day into January; her lively voice saying “I think things are going to get worse before they get better, we’re bringing it forward. Are you free tomorrow?” Erm, YES. Absolutely, YES was my reply.

Small wedding, big emotions

Everyone rallied round to ensure the couple could have the best time possible. The wedding day could not have been more perfect; great weather, a stunning castle location, wonderful registrars and a ceremony packed to the rafters with emotion. With Ludlow Castle’s wedding coordinator and custodian, Sonja and Julie-Ann stepping in as witnesses, and the couple’s daughter Nell acting as bridesmaid and flower girl, this micro wedding could not have been better.

Romantic woodland portraits

I’ve known Kim for a few years now, as she was a wedding coordinator herself at another Shropshire wedding venue, and to see her say the important “I do’s” was incredibly special. When the beautiful ceremony was over, we headed to Mortimer forest, just a stone’s throw away from Ludlow’s historic town centre. This post wedding stomp around the woods called for some relaxed, romantic portraits, a chance for Kim and Chris to let it sink in they were finally married. Topped off with a celebratory flask of tea and china cups; this is what it’s all about.

For many couples right now, there’s a lot of uncertainty around weddings; I’m hoping that these images of Kim and Chris show you just how beautiful a tiny wedding can be. Shropshire is chock full of not only stunning venues, but also incredibly wonderful scenery and countryside so you don’t have to wander far to find a gorgeous setting for your nuptials.

When I’m not shooting people in love you can find me at home, probably drinking too much coffee, eating cake and watching a film. My husband and I hold a lot of our conversations in film quotes. We’re kind of film geeks. After ten years of photographing almost 200 couples who love the bones of each other, I’m still in love with weddings and I would love to hear more about yours.
