Shrewsbury Wedding – Kate & Paul

Mar 22, 2018

Every so often I get a booking that pushes me outside of my comfort zone. It’s no bad thing. As a Shropshire based photographer with a young family I don’t like travelling too far from home and I certainly don’t want to become a destination photographer. I love the local area and I’m way too much of a homebody. A lot of local venues tend to have everything in one place including the ceremony space, the grounds and a space for a reception so the need for moving around multiple venues isn’t necessary.

Until…

Kate and Paul chose Shrewsbury Castle for their ceremony venue and a restaurant across town for their reception, giving them chance to walk through the town, stopping off at their favourite spots for portraits! AMAZING! I’d not shot many weddings like this before so I was so beyond excited to when the day arrived. Shrewsbury Castle is also a museum and the room used for a ceremony is tiny inside so the numbers are very limited as to who can attend but you have full run of the grounds for two hours after the ceremony. We made full use of the stunning grounds including Laura’s Tower which gives you a 360 degree view of Shrewsbury. Kate and Paul chose Drapers Hall – a fine dining restaurant just a short walk from the castle specialising in modern classics in an old world setting, for their meal and reception venue. We stopped off at the Darwin statue by the library and just paused here and there for relaxed, informal portraits – perfect! Kate and Paul are big literary fans so their details were all about their love of books including the totally unique and bespoke cake by Dulcie Blue Bakery, check it out below – it’s ace!

I loved shooting this wedding and I hope for more like it, I’m totally converted to City centre weddings now! Here’s a few of my faves…

When I’m not shooting people in love you can find me at home, probably drinking too much coffee, eating cake and watching a film. My husband and I hold a lot of our conversations in film quotes. We’re kind of film geeks. After ten years of photographing almost 200 couples who love the bones of each other, I’m still in love with weddings and I would love to hear more about yours.
