Should we have a pre shoot

Apr 22, 2020

Are they worth it? What exactly are they? How long will the session last? Will we feel a bit silly having a photo shoot?

Whilst they’ve been popular for a long time, for many couples there’s still lots of questions about pre shoots and what they entail. So hopefully this will shed some light on them for you.

What the heck is a pre wedding photo shoot?

It’s the ideal way to get to see how your photographer works and get some gorgeous images too. Mostly it’s just you and me hanging out, chatting about your wedding plans and having a good giggle. So people ask for natural wedding photos and a surefire to get them is to be totally relaxed and at ease beforehand and having a photo shoot a few weeks before the wedding gives you the chance of a practice run.

How long does a shoot last? Where does it take place? What do we wear?

Allow 45 minutes – 1 hour for your shoot, long enough to get warmed up and feel relaxed. I’d always recommend heading outdoors if the weather allows it so you’re not restricted by one indoor space; some popular locations for previous shoots are Apley Woods, Attingham Park, Lilleshall Abbey, Haughmond Hill, and if they allow it, your very own wedding venue might be an option. As for clothing, be comfy. The more comfortable you are, the better your photos will be. On a practical note, think about footwear, you don’t want to be ruining your favourite party shoes in the woods!

What do previous clients say about the pre shoots?

For this, I’m handing you over to Alison & Brian:

“We’d heard of pre wedding shoots before but to be honest we just weren’t interested. Then as the wedding got closer we realised we’d need a practice run! We were nervous at first, and not sure what to expect but soon felt relaxed and began to have fun. By the end of it we’d really enjoyed it and were so excited to see the results.”

“Having the pre shoot made a massive difference to the photos on the actual wedding day too, as it made us more relaxed and we knew what to expect. We’d 100% recommend booking a shoot as we had such a good time and the pictures are amazing.”

If adding a pre wedding photo shoot to your wedding package, please get in touch and I’ll get you all booked in. I’d advise the shoot take place no later than 2 months before your wedding but we can discuss this in more detail when you book. Most shoots take place on a weekday but I do have some limited weekend availability also. Your images from the shoot will be available in a password protected gallery with unlimited free downloads and the option to purchase prints direct from professional printing company, Loxley Colour.

You can drop me a message or email thisisnicola@hotmail.com or call 07847186848 to book.

When I’m not shooting people in love you can find me at home, probably drinking too much coffee, eating cake and watching a film. My husband and I hold a lot of our conversations in film quotes. We’re kind of film geeks. After ten years of photographing almost 200 couples who love the bones of each other, I’m still in love with weddings and I would love to hear more about yours.
