Same Sex Mytton & Mermaid Wedding

Jun 4, 2018

Matt and Charlie chose The Mytton and Mermaid for their October wedding celebration. As they live in Barcelona, much of the organisation was done by Matt’s parents who made sure their son had the best day with the love of his life. Charlie is from Venezuela so lots of his family were visiting to celebrate with them along with their friends from Barcelona.

This day had a lovely laid back feel and was very much about celebrating, sharing joy and everyone being together. When I arrived they wanted photos of them in Venetian carnival attire, which would be their outfits for the Hora Loca (crazy hour) later that night. How amazing do they look?!

After a few portraits the guys got changed into their suits whilst guests mingled with a champagne and canape reception held before the ceremony – I don’t know why more people don’t do this – such a great way to kick start proceedings!

The grooms were accompanied down the aisle by their moms, such a sweet and emotional moment. Their courtyard ceremony had two readings; one in English and one in Spanish. After the gorgeous ceremony it was back outside to enjoy more drinks, hugs and handshakes and as the weather was good most people headed down to the river lawn.

They chose the venue as they wanted a ‘proper English country house’ and decorated it with pumpkins, bright flowers, pom poms and lanterns.

Before their food was served they enjoyed speeches by Matt’s father, Charlie’s mother, who spoke in Spanish with English translation, the grooms themselves and the best man, Matt’s twin brother, who had the whole room in tears with a variation on the Robert Frost poem “The Road Not Taken”.

I absolutely loved shooting this wedding, so much love for this pair! Here’s just a few of my faves…

When I’m not shooting people in love you can find me at home, probably drinking too much coffee, eating cake and watching a film. My husband and I hold a lot of our conversations in film quotes. We’re kind of film geeks. After ten years of photographing almost 200 couples who love the bones of each other, I’m still in love with weddings and I would love to hear more about yours.
