So this Friday, after nearly four months of no weddings, wedding season finally arrives! And I’m chomping at the bit to get started. For me, the work is still very much a seasonal thing; I may have one or two weddings in December but after nearly six years I’m still shooting most of my weddings between April and September. I still photograph portraits, families and children over Autumn and Winter but nothing compares to weddings. During the down time I hang out with my daughter (who is now one!) I plan ahead for the coming year, exhibit at wedding fayres, design sample albums, update the website, watch a lot of films, drink too much coffee, make biscotti, buy new gear, learn how to use new software, get lost listening to 6 Music & Spotify and watching documentaries that aren’t always related to photography (true story, I was once thirty minutes into a lecture before I fully realised that I was engrossed in a free Stanford University lecture about Cosmology when I should of been watching a review about lenses…I blame the recent eclipse)

But I digress…

Each January it feels like my business is starting over. I have a whole year of new clients, pre shoots, new venues and awesome weddings ahead of me and it’s so exciting to be a part of it. This year I’m photographing so many venues I’ve never shot before and for me that is thrilling. Don’t get me wrong, I like shooting at familiar venues; the staff remember you, you know where the light tends to be at particular times of the day and at certain times of the year. But I think that if you’re creative then you can get bored and shooting somewhere new keeps you on your toes. This year will see me shoot at some AMAZING venues I’ve never been to before and I am uber excited.

The first wedding of 2015 is taking place in my old stomping ground of Aldridge in the West Midlands and the booking came courtesy of an old schoolfriend – a bottle of something lovely will making it’s way to her let me tell you! The reception venue is The Old Schoolhouse in Weeford and it’s going to be gorgeous – I can’t wait.

The batteries are charging, the memory cards are wiped, the lenses are sharp & shiny, the go-to black maxi dress has been cleaned and pressed.
