Hundred House Wedding – Helen & Joe

Jan 15, 2019

This wedding was always set to be one of my faves; when I met Helen and Joe for a drink before the wedding to chat about their plans I spent more time laughing with them than actually talking about wedding stuff. Originally set to take place in October 2017, the wedding was postponed until due to the ill health of Helen’s dad. But in April 2018, he was well enough to accompany his daughter and enjoy this brilliant wedding day.

They chose the Hundred House near Bridgnorth for their venue as it’s a bit quirky, a bit unusual and serves award winning food (it’s also my current top choice for a Sunday roast in Shropshire) The couple decorated the venue with a medieval theme with touches of film references and a splash of Game of Thrones too; check out their version of a seating plan, it’s awesome!

This wedding was also the first of 2018 that didn’t feel like it was taking place in Winter too; finally we had sunshine! Whilst I wasn’t required for bridal prep, I arrived at the venue in time to capture Helen’s arrival; in a replica of the car from Ghostbusters! Certainly a wedding first! Helen entered the Tithe Barn for the ceremony with her four bridesmaids, all looking stunning in beautiful unusual gowns carrying brightly coloured bouquets, and perhaps most importantly, her dad was able to walk her down the aisle.

After the ceremony, guests could enjoy Spring sunshine outside whilst Helen and Joe had a few informal portraits within the gardens; a beautiful mix of fresh herbs and carefully selected flowers interspersed with stone statues and figures. When it was time for food, the couple had chosen a host for each table who had to wear a Bavarian style hat and be in charge of slicing up a huge chocolate cake for their table. Entertainment was provided by the awesome The Oompah Band who encouraged lots of enthusiastic dancing, singing, drinking games and held a contest to see which wedding guest could play a Wagnertuba for the longest time.

I absolutely loved this wedding; it’s bonkers, it’s brilliant and it’s one of my most memorable. Here’s a few of my faves from the day, hope you like them.

When I’m not shooting people in love you can find me at home, probably drinking too much coffee, eating cake and watching a film. My husband and I hold a lot of our conversations in film quotes. We’re kind of film geeks. After ten years of photographing almost 200 couples who love the bones of each other, I’m still in love with weddings and I would love to hear more about yours.
