Haughton Hall Wedding – Hazel & Matt

Mar 14, 2017

When I first met Hazel and Matt, immediately I was so excited to shoot this wedding as they were head over heels about each other, they were easy going, relaxed and were planning a small wedding at Haughton Hall in Shifnal.

Their wedding was a small, intimate affair with just the closest friends and family with them. Hazel was very clear in wanting an elegant, baroque look and feel to the wedding and their details and flowers were truly a stunning reflection of her theme. The flowers were designed and put together by Nigel Whyles in Shifnal with the venue dressing provided by Timeless based in Telford.

This was my third wedding in a row that weekend and the morning was spent with Hazel, her daughter and her best friend re-watching the highlights of the Rio Olympics from the previous day in the bridal suite at Haughton Hall – a beautiful light and airy space with roll top bath, wooden floors and Georgian sash windows. Matt sent Hazel a gift to be opened that morning: a beautiful antique box holding two letters: one private that she read alone in the bathroom, another she could share with her daughter along with a Wonder Woman keyring.

The August weather was on side so the emotional and moving ceremony, conducted by one of my favourite registrars, could be held outdoors in the extensive grounds. With readings by Matt’s sister, nieces and nephew followed by Hazel’s brother the ceremony concluded with a storm of confetti. After a few informal portraits and their wedding breakfast, guests watched as Matt and Hazel play the Mr & Mrs game (or the ShoelyWed game if you prefer!) Matt’s romantic streak didn’t end with the gift, as he even learnt how to dance the tango for their first dance as he knew how much it would mean to Hazel, a very keen dancer in her own right.

Here’s just a selection from this beautiful wedding…

When I’m not shooting people in love you can find me at home, probably drinking too much coffee, eating cake and watching a film. My husband and I hold a lot of our conversations in film quotes. We’re kind of film geeks. After ten years of photographing almost 200 couples who love the bones of each other, I’m still in love with weddings and I would love to hear more about yours.
