Rowton Castle Wedding – Steph & Lewis

Mar 26, 2018

Epic. It’s a word that I think sometimes get over used, especially when it comes to describing weddings but this one really did knock my socks off. It might have been the venue being one of my favourites, Rowton Castle. It might have been the fact that Helen Howard was on board with me for second shooting duties or it might have been Ollie from Floodgate films being on videography duties. I strongly suspect it is entirely down to Steph and Lewis.

I heart them so much. When I asked them what they were most looking forward to, they said “being husband and wife! We want to spend the day laughing, enjoying time with our family and most of all showing everyone around us how in love we are”.

They chose Rowton Castle, a stunning Shropshire wedding venue on the outskirts of Shrewsbury and one of my favourite venues to shoot at for their big day. Surrounded by their nearest and dearest, including their 3 children, they had the best day and we even struck gold with a gorgeous golden hour. I genuinely got emotional when Steph walked down the aisle to ‘Tenerife Sea’ by Ed Sheeran and again in the evening when they danced to ‘The One’ by Kodaline.

Here’s just a few of my faves and some words by the couple about how they met and why they chose Rowton.

How Did You Meet?

“We met at the Bagot Arms Pub, Erdington, on a night when neither of us wanted to be there – it’s not got the best reputation! But we both got dragged out with work friends. We got on straight away and swapped numbers and we met back up a week later for our first date.

The best part was realising that we had worked across the road from each other for 6 years – both starting our jobs at the same time and going to the same places on our lunch breaks but our paths had never crossed until that night.”

Why Rowton Castle:

“The venue is amazing, I mean it is a castle! Steph has gone on family holidays to Wales since she was tiny and always passed Rowton Castle on the way. Her dad always used to tell her that she’d get married there. After hearing this story I just knew we had to view it, even though Steph didn’t think it was a realistic option. We viewed other venues too but nothing came close. We fell in love with it. We love the stunning setting and what really sold it for us both was the exclusive use. Knowing that the day we get married it will be our very own castle for the day – how does it get better than that!”

When I’m not shooting people in love you can find me at home, probably drinking too much coffee, eating cake and watching a film. My husband and I hold a lot of our conversations in film quotes. We’re kind of film geeks. After ten years of photographing almost 200 couples who love the bones of each other, I’m still in love with weddings and I would love to hear more about yours.
